Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a feature designed to simplify the process of connecting devices to a Wi-Fi network. It allows users to easily add new devices to a network without manually entering the network's security passphrase (pre-shared key). WPS is intended to enhance user convenience, but it has also been associated with security vulnerabilities in some implementations.

WPS provides multiple methods for connecting devices to a Wi-Fi network:

  1. Push Button Configuration (PBC): In PBC mode, the user presses the WPS button on the Wi-Fi router or access point and then presses the corresponding WPS button on the client device within a specific timeframe. This initiates an automated process, and the devices exchange the necessary information to establish a connection.
  2. Personal Identification Number (PIN): In this mode, the user can enter an eight-digit PIN printed on a label or displayed on the device's configuration page. The device uses this PIN to authenticate itself with the router and join the network.
